University of Newcastle Health and Medicine PhD or Research Masters Scholarships in Australia, 2015

The University of Newcastle is appealing the applications for seven full postgraduate research scholarships for both national and for international students. These scholarships are granted to candidates to study on a full-time or part-time basis within the faculty of health as well as medicine in 2015. Out of these scholarships, three scholarships will be supported by the donor funds as well as must fall within a particular research zone. These scholarships will be known as Donor scholarships and four more scholarships will be named as Faculty of Health and Medicine Postgraduate Research Scholarships.

Fields of study

These scholarships are granted for research in any zone of direct relevance to understanding the reasons, treatment as well as the prevention of diabetes; any zone that is associated with the children’s science and health; in cardiovascular disease as well as cardiovascular health and in any research zone available within the faculty of health and medicine.

Eligibility criteria

These scholarships are available for national and international candidates on a full and part-time basis.

To hold the scholarship, candidates must meet the following requirements.

o   Honours Class 1 (or equivalent)

o   Grade Point Average of above 5.25 (or equivalent)

o   Minimum English language requirements met (where applicable)

o   Research Experience

o   Publications

o   Any scholarship co-funding (involving top-up) offered by the supervisor.

Seven scholarships are available for national and international candidates.

Time period for scholarship

Masters by Research scholarships will be granted for two years (full-time equivalent) while PhD scholarships will be granted to candidates for three years along with the possibility of a 6-month extension period (full-time equivalent).

What does this scholarship will cover?

o   Living expenditure of almost $25,849 annual(2015 full-time rate)

o   International scholarships will cover tuition fees

o   Thesis allowance

o   Relocation allowance (if required) – economy airfare

o   Overseas Students Health Cover – International Students Only

Selection Criteria

Primary selection for all scholarships will be academic record as well as the research potential of the candidate as based on:

o   Academic record and CV of candidate

o   A one-page proposal, prepared by the candidate, in consultation along with the intended supervisor outlining:

o   A brief background to the project and its significance

o   Pioneering aspects of the approach that also involves particular hypothesis to be tested (if any)

o   The research training environment

o   The capacity of the candidate to commence candidature before 30th October 2015
